about me . . .

I was born and raised in Lima, Perú. My first language is Spanish but I studied English since I was 3 years old. Both of my parents are retired teachers. My mother taught HS Spanish for 38 yrs. at ‘The American School of Lima’ (where I went to school) and my father taught elementary for 25 years (at a Peruvian school). They both still live in Perú (as well as the rest of my extended family). I have two younger sisters. The youngest one is a Sixth grade teacher at Holland Spanish Immersion School and the middle one is a stay-at-home mom in Wisconsin. I also have an older half sister that lives in Spain. I have three nieces and two nephews--and I absolutely adore them! I’m married and have a 6 year old daughter named Vivian.

I graduated from Hope College with majors in Spanish/English/International Studies and a French minor.  After working for several years in the Human Resources area, I decided to go into the teaching field. I earned my teaching certificate through GVSU’s Graduate Teacher Certification Program and have completed my Masters in Secondary Education at GVSU. I taught 2 yrs. in the Leelanau Peninsula, 4 yrs. at Hamilton HS and 10 years at Hudsonville HS. This is my 16th year of teaching and I love it!
